This comprehensive bilingual writing and reading program works with children and youth ages 7-14, and their families, in New York City. Its objective is to help bullying victims to release stress, sadness and fears caused by it, also to reduce suicidal ideas. Through writing, children express their feelings and describe the mistreatment suffered at school, at home or in their environment, it motivates them to speak, they also learn painting, crafts, etiquette and protocol, dance and taekwondo. Reading comprehension helps them expand their vocabulary and preserve their mother tongue, which is one of the first things children lose when they move to another country.
In addition to reading and writing, to help them increase their self-esteem and avoid bullying, the program provides psychological help to children and guides parents on how to identify the signs that their children are being bullied and how to help them. The writing and reading comprehension workshops are structured to provide guidance and instruction in English and Spanish with adult or family supervision if desired. Requires each child/youth to complete a story at the end of the program. These stories will be exhibited to the public through children's readings, either in English or Spanish, in a final event to which the community is invited.
